This award-winning project northwest of Des Moines features a multi-level 930sf deck adjacent to and integrating with another 870sf patio space laid on an existing in-ground storage “bunker.” The upper 650sf of the deck is covered with a roof creating a spacious outdoor living room that allows various outdoor furniture settings. A bar area separates the open porch from a covered outdoor kitchen on the lower level of the deck and has open deck space featuring a rail-height bar. The roof aspect of the project necessitated a significant roofline adjustment from the home’s original design.
Low-maintenance products including TimberTech’s Tropical capped-composite decking, Westbury aluminum rail and Belgard paver products finish the space with the porch ceiling and support columns above their Cultured Stone bases finished in cedar. Trex’s Elevations steel framing system was used to provide maximum integrity of the structural components of the deck and porch.
